August is National Water Quality Month!

The history of National Water Quality Month originally dates back to two US congressional acts that were passed in the early 1970s in an effort to protect our water sources. The Clean Water Act was passed in 1972 and the federal government began taking steps to curb water pollution by making it illegal to dump high amounts of toxic materials into bodies of water. This set the standard for making sure that surface water was up to certain standards before being used for human consumption and recreation. In 1974, the Safe Drinking Water Act was passed to further protect the quality of groundwater and public water systems. National Water Quality Month was founded in 2005 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and backed by the United Nations in an effort to promote civic discourse about how to conserve our natural water sources by starting conversations on what we can do in our own households and communities to ensure that we all have access to safe, clean drinking water for generations to come. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and the water utility companies themselves are all play a part in making sure that the water that comes from our taps are always safe for use.

Even though water makes up over 70% of Earth’s surface area, the total amount of freshwater found on Earth only makes up around 3% of the water supply, 1% of which is easily accessible. This 1% accounts for all of our lakes, rivers, groundwater, aquifers, and streams. With this in mind, one can imagine that sustaining the needs of over 7 billion people on earth is no easy task. National Water quality month reminds us to take a moment to consider how important these water sources are not just to humans, but also to the other inhabitants of these ecosystems. The fish that live in the waters, the plants and animals that rely on lakes and rivers for water just like we do. By thinking about the little things that you do on a daily basis that could have a negative effect on water quality, you’ll be one step closer to making a difference. There are easily thousands of factors that can have a negative impact on the quality of your local water sources ranging from industrial pollutants like metal particulate, oils, and other chemicals to the pesticides we use in our own backyards. Just by focusing on what we do at home can have a direct impact. Not using antibacterial soaps or cleaning products. Regular soap and water will do the trick. Much of the antibacterial soaps contain a registered pesticide that is known to harm marine life. Not flushing unwanted or out-of-date medications down the toilet or drain and how about just not buying any more bottled water. It takes more than 17 million barrels of oil annually to make all the plastic bottles that meet America’s demand for bottled water. That’s enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year, not including the oil used for transportation of those water bottles. After decades-long streak of strong growth, bottled water surpassed carbonated soft drinks to become the largest beverage category by volume in the United States in 2016, according to research and consulting firm Beverage Marketing Corp. Annual consumption of plastic bottles now tops half a trillion, far outstripping recycling efforts and jeopardizing oceans, coastlines and other environments. A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute creating an environmental crisis some campaigners predict will be as serious as climate change. Currently the average American uses more than 167 disposable water bottles annually. Altogether, Americans’ use over 50 billion plastic water bottles a year. The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 a day. That same amount of bottled water is about $1,400 a year, but keep in mind that people prefer bottled water because it taste great! So, how does one cut out all the plastic bottles from their life but still get great tasting water straight from their tap? By purchasing a high performance drinking water system, that goes under your kitchen sink from Everpure! The Mother’s Day Gift that Keeps on Giving!

If you haven’t already this year, give Mom the gift of commercial grade, pure clean water! If you tour the kitchen at a world renowned restaurant, you’re very likely to see the Everpure name. We’re the industry leader that professional chefs trust most for excellence in water filtration. They love our ability to remove the impurities that make water taste bad, while preserving the valuable trace minerals that create refreshing flavor. A commercial grade Everpure system takes away all sorts of unpleasant substances – and even some unhealthy ones – that may be in your tap water:

  • Particulates that leave a bad taste or odor
  • Chemical substances that may affect health and add unpleasant tastes and odors
  • Bacteria and viruses that can cause illness
  • Limescale that damages your expensive water-using appliances

Everpure filtered water lets you drink, blend beverages, and cook with confidence.

  • Better tasting coffee and tea
  • More appetizing food – chlorinated water can cause cooking water to taste odd, which can affect food, such as pasta. Chlorine also can affect food color.
  • Tastier homemade bread – chlorine can affect yeast, which is a particular problem in sourdough recipes.
  • Cleaner fruits and vegetables – washing produce in filtered water prevents contamination with chlorine and related byproducts. Even washing salad in chlorinated water can have negative effects.

From elegant fare to simple crystal-clear ice, enjoy gourmet restaurant quality in your own home with a Pentair Everpure system.

Pentair Residential Energy and Transportation Surcharge Announcement!

April 1, 2022

Dear Valued Pentair Partner,

The global manufacturing environment for Pentair, and other industrial corporations, remains extraordinarily challenging. Ongoing inflationary pressures, supply scarcities, labor constraints, and escalating energy and transportation costs continue to negatively impact your business and ours, as well as the economy at large.

We have minimized the impacts of rising economic pressures and remain committed to providing you, our valued customer, with exceptional products, services, and support at competitive prices. To continue to do so, we are implementing an 8% energy and transportation surcharge on all valves, tanks, filtration, and softening products. This surcharge is incremental to current pricing, and is effective on all orders shipped on or after April 8, 2022.

Given the extreme volatility of the energy market, we will continue monitoring this surcharge, and will communicate any subsequent changes based on the cost trends associated with manufacturing Pentair products.

We understand our businesses are facing unprecedented economic challenges. You are an important part of our promise to make the most of life’s essential resources. Thank you for your continued support of Pentair brands and products amid these turbulent economic times. Your business remains vitally important to us!

April 1, 2022

Re: Pentair Commercial Foodservice Energy Transportation Surcharge

Dear Valued Pentair Foodservice Partner,

The global manufacturing environment for Pentair and many industrial corporations remains extraordinarily challenging. Ongoing inflationary pressures, supply scarcities, labor constraints, escalating energy and transportation costs continue to negatively impact your business and ours, as well as the economy at large.

We have minimized the impacts of rising economic pressures and remain committed to providing you, our valued customer, with exceptional products, services, and support at competitive prices. As a result, we are implementing a 7% freight/energy/transportation surcharge that will be effective April 8, 2022.

Pentair Everpure’s 2022 Commercial Coffee Brewer Water Filter System Line Up!

As winter continues to drive folks to the hot beverage side of menu this year, operators are also dealing with some very sophisticated taste buds that are demanding much higher quality. A few years ago, only the most dedicated barista paid attention to the acidity, the body, and balance of the coffee they brewed. But as the specialty coffee industry has grown and customers have learned more about what makes “the perfect cup,” expectations have risen dramatically. COFFEE is 98.7% WATER! How a cup of coffee tastes depends as much on the quality of the water as it does on the beans. The right water treatment system lets operators keep water chemistry consistent across locations and dial in the ideal mix of minerals for brewing. In addition to making sure that you are not ruining the taste of the expensive coffee and tea that you have invested in, the right water treatment system can also increase the efficiency of your expensive brewing equipment while protecting it from dirt, scale or corrosion.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association; For a superior quality extraction of coffee solids, the brewing water should have these characteristics:

CharacteristicTargetAcceptable Range
Odor 1Clean/Fresh, Odor free
Color 2Clear color
Total ChlorineO mg/L
TDS 3150 mg/L75 – 250 mg/L
Calcium Hardness4 grains or 68 mg/L1-5 grains or 17 mg/L – 85 mg/L
Total Alkalinity40 mg/LAt or near 40 mg/L
pH7.06.5 – 7.5
Sodium10 mg/LAt or near 10 mg/L

The Entire Family of Made in America Pentair/Everpure Commercial Coffee Brewing water filters are designed to consistently deliver this “superior” quality water while also protecting expensive commercial coffee equipment. These filters have been changing the taste of coffee all over the world providing clear, fresh, premium quality water for consistently great tasting coffee. Everpure’s unique filters utilize a refined activated carbon to eliminate chlorine taste and odor and other offensive contaminants. These filters also save energy by reducing scale build-up. A proportioned scale inhibitor feed inside each filter dramatically prevents limescale from forming in brewing equipment. New and improved Micro-Pure II media with AgION™ antimicrobial protection inhibits any potential bacterial growth inside the filter. With precoat submicron technology, dirt and particles as small as ½ micron in size are reduced, eliminating health contaminants such as asbestos fibers, Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The Sanitary cartridge replacement is simple, quick and clean, and no tools necessary. Internal filter parts are never exposed to handling or contamination. All of these filters are both NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 certified for health effects.

The only real difference between any of the above precoat filter systems above are capacity and flow, (gpm) gallons per minute. The OCS², (Office Coffee System) is designed for small brewers in commercial office settings and features a 1500 gallon capacity with a ½ gpm flow rate. The BH², (Brewer Hot) filter is designed for all commercial brewers, Bunn, Cecilware, Fetco,Wilbur Curtis, etc. requiring a flow rate of ½ gpm or less and features a 3,000 gallon capacity. The MH² ( Multiple Hot) cartridge is also designed to take care of multiple commercial brewers (Bunn, Cecilware, Fetco,Wilbur Curtis, etc ), with a flow rate of 1.67 gpm and featuring a 9,000 gallon capacity paired with the QC7i head, EV9272-41 or 18,000 gallons when used with a QC7i Twin Head, EV9272-22!
