Healthiest 2017 New Year’s Resolution Save! Drink more water!

It’s now March and making it to the gymn and sticking with that diet may becoming harder and harder to do as everyday life gets in the way but there is one easy thing you can do anytime anywhere and feel great about getting it done in 2017 and that is to drink more water. Proven to be one of the best things you can do for your body. More energy, lower cholesterol, better kidney function and a much better mood are just some of the health affects you can expect. Drinking more water right now, hot or warm during the winter months can help with everything from better digestion to improved blood circulation.  Here are just a few health affects you will find from drinking more water right now starting with an increase in energy levels to get you to the gym. Water is one of the major sources of energy for our cells. Energy is made when glucose is converted to adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is held in reserve until it is needed. These two molecules need water in order for the stored energy to be released in a process called hydrolysis. The ATP by itself contains 600 units of energy, but when combined with water it can increase to over 6,000 units, to ten times the original amount. Feeling tired or fatigued, you may need more water. Lack of water can even cause an increase in cholesterol. Low cellular water levels impede the entry of nutrients and the removal of waste from our cells. To compensate for the lack of water our liver sends cholesterol to the cells to fill the space where water was supposed to be, in order to allow the cell to function. This can cause an excess of cholesterol in the blood stream leading to plaque. Based upon several studies and in office evaluations by Doctors, it has been determined that low levels of water can lead to a wide range of mental challenges including mental fatigue, depression and even more serious issues including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.  So whether it’s at home or in the office this year, drink more water and make 2017 the year that you became a healthier you with a New Year’s resolution that was easy to keep. For premium quality drinking water for bottleless coolers and drinking fountains in your office Filter Pure recommends the Pentair/Everpure OW, (Office Water) Family of water filters. The Depressing Reason Bottled Water Is About to Outsell Soda for the First Time.

In a recent Forbes article; http://fortune.com/2016/08/02/bottled-water-outsell-soda/

“It’s not just because consumers are getting more health conscious. Americans are leaving carbonated beverages behind in favor of bottled water. But their motivations go beyond a general trend away from sugary drinks. Bottled water sales are set to surpass sales of soda for the first time in the U.S this year, according to Euromonitor data cited by Bloomberg. And beverage industry giants Coca Cola, PesiCo and Dr. Pepper Snapple all say that, while convenience and health reasons are a large force driving the trend, America’s dilapidated water infrastructure is also a significant contributor. The recent crisis in Flint, Michigan that left children and parents without clean drinking water due to dangerous levels of lead from old pipes highlighted the significant lapses in basic U.S. infrastructure. “Concerns in places like Flint do bring bottled water to people’s attention as a safe and sealed source of drinking water,” Jane Lazgin, a spokeswoman for bottled water market leader Nestle Waters North America, told Bloomberg. “People feeling unsafe about their drinking water clearly leads them to drink it out of a bottle,” added Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. analyst Ali Dibadj.”

Worried about the water coming out of your tap but also worried about the damage that all of those billions of water bottles are doing to our environment? It takes more than 17 million barrels of oil annually to make all the plastic bottles that meet America’s demand for bottled water. That’s enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year, not including the oil used for transportation of those water bottles. The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 a day. That same amount of bottled water is about $1,400 a year, but keep in mind that people prefer bottled water because it taste great!
So, how does one cut out all the plastic bottles from their life, get great tasting water straight from their tap and save money?

By purchasing a high performance drinking water system, that goes under your your kitchen sink. This system uses the same water purification process as Dasani and Nestle and it is called reverse osmosis. This process is used in water purification, manufacturing plants, and chemical laboratories.

One great unit that we recommend is the the PURA QCRO4V. This 4 stage quick change reverse osmosis system can be customized to adapt to changing water conditions. The quick change filters feature the innovative PURA twist and lock design, making filter changes and service fast and easy.

  • Choice of a 50 gpd or 75 gpd membrane
  • Standard Lead Free Air Gap Faucet
  • Color coded tubing for easier installation
  • Quick connect fittings and a self piercing feed valve
  • Interchangeable filters allows the system to be customized to your local water conditions
  • Produces high quality water for better tasting coffee, tea, juices, soups, sauces and pasta and clearer ice cubes
  • System includes a sediment pre-filter, carbon block pre-filter, RO membrane and carbon block postfilter

The first stage of filtration is the sediment filter, which reduces suspended particles such as dirt, dust, and rust. The second stage of filtration is the carbon filter. This filter reduces volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), chlorine, and other compounds that might impact the taste or odor of the tap water. Chlorine should be removed from the water before the water enters the membrane. This will help preserve the life of the membrane. The center and third stage of a reverse osmosis system is the semi-permeable (RO) membrane. It is responsible for rejecting up to 98% of the total dissolved solids in the water.

So you can save the planet, save money and drink healthier water! For more information about this system call 800-942-7873 or email us at info@filterpure.com.

Reduce your utility and maintenance costs by improving your water quality!

Regular preventative maintenance is necessary to keep your facility running efficiently and performing to its maximum capability. However, you may have also experienced some unnecessary visits, visits that could have been avoided by controlling one of the most common commodity items: water. Water not only has an effect on utility bills, but it can also be the source of unnecessary maintenance. How often is a service company performing ice machine cleanings? Or descaling a piece of espresso or steam equipment? Controlling your water quality can help to optimize the number of service calls. Equipment that heats or chills water can be the largest source of service calls, and this is often due to varying water quality. Ice machines, especially those that are high-volume, are particularly prone to scale buildup and other water related problems. Steam and combi ovens are also very prone to equipment failure and maintenance from water quality issues. While there have been great advancements in cooking technology over recent years, some of these technologies, like boiler-less combi ovens, make good water quality even more vital. Ovens that use steam are especially susceptible, as any contaminant in water is left behind when the oven turns water to steam. While a service company is vital to maintaining operation, you may also want to ask about how controlling influent water quality may help reduce the number of reactive service calls in your operation. You may even be able to reduce the number of preventative maintenance checks on their current schedule. Controlling influent water quality can be as simple as installing a water treatment solution. There are a number of ways to control water quality, including traditional filtration, softening and reverse osmosis.

• Filtration – Although traditional filtration will not remove hardness and TDS by itself, many filtration companies add phosphate to prevent the precipitation of scale on heating and cooling elements.

• Softening – Softening handles hardness by replacing the calcium in water with sodium. By replacing calcium with sodium, scale, a combination of sodium and carbonate, is prevented from forming

• Reverse Osmosis (RO) – RO removes hardness from water using membrane technology. Dissolved minerals are removed from the water and sent to drain, leaving nearly pure H20.

Is your water ready for Mom!

As the most popular holiday of the year to dine out, Mother’s Day will entice nearly half of Americans to dine out or order restaurant takeout or delivery on this Sunday, May 8th. Consumers plan to spend $4.2 billion on jewelry, $4.1 billion on special outings such as dinner or brunch and $2.4 billion on flowers. Total spending is expected to reach $21.4 billion.  According to NRF’s survey conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics, consumers are expected to spend an average $172.22 per person, on par with last year.  Whether consumers pick mom’s preferred buffet breakfast or her favorite fine-dining dinner, America’s restaurants are stepping up to the plate to help families celebrate the special occasion. And while a majority of consumers make their Mother’s Day meal plans less than a month out, nearly one in five have probably been planning their celebratory meals for more than one month and the first thing that Mom is going to taste is the water! With everything that’s been happening in the news lately regarding drinking water, make sure that your Restaurant’s table water is ready to make a great first impression also. You can be sure that if your water is off color with a bad taste or odor this weekend, it’s not only going to reflect poorly on the person who recommended your restaurant for Mom, but may have the saving grace of being a great conversation starter comparing your water to that of Flint Michigan’s water if they stick around to eat.

Either way it is certainly something that is easy to avoid, as easy as making sure that your water filters have been changed or if you don’t already have one, installing an Everpure water filtration system to take care of all of the beverages and ice that you are serving.  If you already have an Everpure system, it is essential that filters be replaced periodically. The frequency of filter changes depends upon your water quality and your water usage. For example, if there is a lot of sediment and/or particles in your water, then you will have to change your filters more frequently than a location with little to no sediment. Be sure to replace your filters whenever you notice a decline in the performance, whether it is a drop in flow rate and/or pressure or an unusual taste in the water.

Prefilter, ( First bowl to left, system above)

The prefilter (coarse) cartridge should be changed when it becomes dirty to within 1/8″ of the core or when you see the outlet pressure gauge fall into the red zone. Check the pressure gauge only when the equipment is calling for water.

Submicron Cartridges ( 3 in the middle system pictured above)

The cartridges should be changed at the first occurrence of a) the gallon rating stated on the label, b) every 6 months, or c) the pressure gauge needle falls into the red zone while your equipment is calling for water.

Scalestick  ( cartridge in last bowl to right pictured in system above)

The Scalestick needs to be replaced before the Hydroblend compound is completely used up.

You should also replace your water filters whenever you notice a decline in performance, whether it is a drop in flow rate and/or pressure, or an unusual taste in the water. You should also, per the CDC, replace your water filter after any boil water advisory alert is lifted in your area. Remember: taste and odor may tip you off to the presence of chlorine in your water, but most contaminants are tasteless and odorless.

For the benefit of our customers, we have set-up automatic electronic reminders that are sent when we see that their filters are due to be replaced, based on order history.  We can even set-up Auto-Ship for customers that know they will need water filters by a certain date, but may not remember to place an order.

If you have a question regarding how often you should replace your filter or not sure about the filter system that you have please email your questions and a picture of the system to info@filterpure.com or call our team at 1-800-942-7873 and have a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Benefits associated with filtering cooling tower water with liquid bag filters.

Improving the efficiency of cooling towers in many ways can be accomplished by a very simple process.

Filtering the cooling water and removing particulates capable of potential damage and contamination is a primary goal for many industries world-wide. Bag filters are a common and cost effective option for this type of application.

Usually, water with a percentage of glycol is filtered by using bag filters to clean the non-contact cooling liquid. This method is very effective in eliminating contaminants and particulates in open cooling ponds and older cooling systems that have never had filtration.

Whether it is an older cooling system or new cooling system removing particles of 10 micron and larger are needed to keep equipment downtime, poor performance and higher operating costs at a minimum. Pipe scale and a lack of clean makeup water can not only introduce unwanted solid material into the system but increase bad performance, costly repairs and added downtime.

Liquid filter bag systems are commonly used method for removing particles because they can achieve the filtration level easily and are cost efficient. Bag filters are sized accordingly to the housing and strainer basket they are supported by. Filter media can be made in various types of fabrics. Under normal conditions, bags should be changed infrequently because they have a large dirt holding capacity.

The flexibility of using filter bag housings for older systems that have never had any filtration, is they can use the step down approach in the filter system. The application can start with a 100 or larger micron fabric media to initially capture the larger particulates. Over time, when the bags are lasting longer in the housing bags with smaller micron fabric can be used to continue capturing the finer particulates until the proper 10 micron bags can be maintained. The inside to outside flow inside the housing prevents the contaminants from exiting the filter during operation and removal of the filter change out.

Other applications, certain types of specialty bags can be used to maximize the bag filter effectiveness:

Oil-Absorption Filter bags can be used in certain cooling systems to prevent the buildup of oil. The bag material is constructed of a lofted Polypropylene fiber that attracts and holds on to oil particles. The material swells as it captures oil that it comes in contact with. As the bag material swells, the filtration efficiency of the bag increases. Oil absorption bags are used in applications where oil molecules are between 25 – 500 ppm.

Pleated Filter bags are used to increase the amount of time in between filter bag changes. The surface area of the filter is increased 5-10 times of a standard filter bag giving it have a higher level of dirt holding capacity reducing downtime for filter servicing. This option reduces the operating expenses and employees time for servicing filtration units and production downtime.

Magnetic Rod Inserts for filter bags to capture metals and ferrous materials will reduce equipment downtime, potential equipment failure, maximizes the life of the disposable bags and filtering efficiency. Magnetic Rods can remove more mass than a filter bag alone which in turn increases the operating time in between filter changes. When the filter bag needs changing, the rod is simply removed and wiped clean with rag. The material wiped from the rod can be then disposed of and the cleaned rod can be reinserted with the new bag for continued and repeated use.
