News From Pentair's Water Initiatives

More than one billion people around the world, most of them in developing nations, lack access to safe water. The result is that preventable waterborne diseases continue to be a leading cause of illness and death globally. Every day, approximately 25,000 people, mainly children in developing countries, die from preventable waterborne diseases, according to the World Health Organization. Pentair has been in search of a solution that not only brings safe water to communities in need, but also ensures that the solution is sustainable at the community level, taking into consideration the complex economic, cultural and geographical constraints that need to be addressed. The solution also needs to have validating methods and standard practices that can be replicated around the world. To accomplish this, the Pentair Foundation funded a multi-year research program in remote Colón, Honduras. The results of the five year program and the impact on the lives of the people in Colón have been profound. The results demonstrated that sustainable access to safe water and adequate sanitation can be provided cost-effectively, and that the health and welfare of the recipients can be significantly improved. Additionally, to ensure that safe treated water continues to be available beyond Pentair’s initial funding period, a microenterprise business model was established, where the local community owns the water treatment systems and users pay their communities a nominal fee for potable water. The individual user fee is established by the local community to cover the ongoing operation and maintenance of their system. Once installed, the system costs pennies per person per day to operate. Leveraging this success, Pentair is partnering around the world by putting its grants, technology and talent to work for communities in need of clean drinking water. By engaging community partners and equipping them with our extensive product portfolio and technical water distribution systems expertise, we are measurably improving water safety and sanitation worldwide. Understanding that everyone’s efforts add up to more effective answers, Pentair is leading through partnership to find a sustainable solution to the global water crisis. Pentair invites others to join in working toward a world where everyone has access to quality water supply. We are making our findings and models publicly available to other organizations and municipalities interested in replicating these cost-effective methods. By turning industry insights into collaborative proactive plans and on-the-ground tools, we are confident that even the most challenging issues can be solved when we unite around smart ideas. Home Brewing the best beer!

We here at Filter Pure have a lot of customers that come in asking us questions like, “What kind of water should I use to brew beer?” There’s a saying, “If you don’t drink from your tap water, don’t brew beer with it.”

A lot of different styles of beer around the world were created based on the type of water in that area. For instance, people who want to make English style stouts usually put chips and salt into their water. You can even doctor your water to match different locations around the world by adjusting the temperature of the water. But first, before adding salts and adjusting the temperature, you want to make sure your water is filtered.

Whether your brewery looks like this…

…or this

…or even this…

…the water you use should be well filtered for quality taste!

There are many ways you can filter your water; we recommend using Costguard’s 10″ housing unit, the CGS-10 (EV9100-10) made by EVERPURE. This system is simple and inexpensive. The CGS-10 is made up of a 10″ low profile Slim Line single bowl housing that is manufactured of durable polypropylene and has excellent chemical resistance. It includes a water pressure gauge which is equipped with a pressure relief button to relieve water pressure during cartridge changes.

It also includes wall mounting bracket and hardware for fast and easy installation. This system is shipped fully assembled. All you have to do is choose the appropriate cartridge for your needs. A CG53-10 (EV9108-53) is highly recommended because of its .5 micron rating, and its carbon effectively reduces unwanted tastes, odor and chlorine. But if you have any type of softening resin already in your water, then use a higher micron rating, such as the CG5-10 (EV910815). Its specifications are the same as the CG53-10 except its micron rating is 5.

Water filtration and all the steps involved can seem confusing. You’ll find yourself scratching your head, not even knowing where to begin. Well, we’re here to help make it simple for you.

Your home brewed beer has the potential to taste EXACTLY the way you want it to. And the first step to getting it there is making sure you have the right water filtration.

What Your Unfiltered Water Contains…

Think about where your water comes from….and we don’t just mean the sink! Expand your mind and remember that water comes from unclean, natural resources like rivers and lakes, which contain pollution and contaminants that are unfit for consumption. To be clean, the water should undergo a number of treatments necessary to make it drinkable.

Specifically in tap water is:

  • Toxic heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper, cadmium and aluminum
  • Volatile organic chemicals, such as pesticides and herbicides
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Chemicals from irresponsible manufacturers
  • Personal care chemicals
  • Household cleaning products
  • Water treatment additives such as chlorine, fluoride, and other toxic chemicals
  • Bacteria and viruses such as giardia, cryptosporidium, coliform and E-coli
  • Toxic Heavy Metals

Water purifiers are specifically designed to eliminate or reduce these certain pollutants that are in our drinking water. They also improve the quality and taste of the water by eliminating its chlorine content. It is virtually impossible to know what is in tap water at any given time because municipal water quality as well as private well water varies from place to place, season to season, and house to house. Even if all of the toxic metals could be completely filtered at the local water treatment facility, they could still end up in your drinking water because rust and sediment build up in the water pipes within our homes. Even this minimal exposure can cause symptoms similar to the flu, such as headaches, diarrhea, cramps, nausea or vomiting. The only way we can have any control over the quality of water we drink is by having a personal water filter system. Filtered drinking water is the most reliable and least expensive way to get healthy water!

Everpure Claris Water Filter Heads

Everpure Claris Water Filter HeadsEverpure Claris water filter heads are an integral part of the Claris water filter system by Everpure. This system was designed to be used with hot water and is ideal for hot drink machines, steam cooking and brewed iced tea. It is unique in that it permits users to determine the amount of minerals they want in their water, allowing for improved flavor while still protecting equipment from the damages caused by hard water. It doesn’t waste water the way that a reverse osmosis system does, and yet it still helps to reduce energy costs and prevent costly de-liming procedures. The filter heads designed to fit the Everpure Claris filters are sturdy and long-lasting. They do not corrode, making them perfect for vending machines and the food service industry. There are three different models:

Both of the QCF filter heads come equipped with an automatic shut-off, a built-in flush port and an adjustable bypass; the BSP model includes all of these features as well as a flow restrictor and a backflow restrictor. All of them are commercial-grade water filter heads made specifically for Claris filter cartridges. The Claris heads are effortless to install. They do not need an electrical connection, and mounting them is merely a matter of following a simple illustration. The filter system can function as a freestanding unit, or it can be mounted to a wall or laid on its side. This makes it useable even in situations where space is limited. The only major requirements are that the water pressure leading to the system must be less than 116 psi and the shut-off valve must be placed upstream from the filter. If the pressure is too high, a pressure reducer valve should be fitted to the supply end of the system. For optimum performance of the Everpure Claris filter heads, it is important to change the filters once a year or whenever their water capacity is reached, whichever comes first. Following cartridge installation, flush out the system by turning the filter head clockwise. To determine whether the desired hardness level has been reached, utilize the Titration kit rather than checking mineral levels with hardness test strips. The Claris system can be used for any application where users desire to control the softness of their water. Typically, this includes coffee and espresso machines, steam cookers and ovens, and self-cooking systems.

Everpure Claris Saves Money And Offers Better Tasting Water

Everpure ClarisFood managers and restaurant owners looking for a high-quality commercial water filter system to decrease the costs of regular deliming will be impressed by Everpure Claris. This water softening and filtration system can save operators up to $2,500 annually, not to mention provide a crystal clear glass of iced tea to thirsty customers. Unlike reverse osmosis water filtration systems, Everpure Claris does not remove all minerals from the water. Minerals add flavor to drinks, so the filtration system allows the operator to adjust the relative water softness of the water supply, thus controlling of the alkalinity and mineral content of the water. Meanwhile, the five-step filtration process removes all unpleasant particles, odors and tastes. Everpure Claris blends perfectly to create great-tasting beverages every time. It also reduces scale in direct-injection steam ovens, which can save operators $1,400 in energy costs. Owners save another $1,100 by eliminating the expensive deliming process associated with hard water. In tests by Everpure, replacing a resin filter with Claris reduced water hardness grains by 50 percent. It’s also environmentally friendly when compared to a reverse osmosis water filtration system, which wastes two to three gallons of water for every gallon of purified water it creates. The savings on maintenance is reason enough to consider Everpure Claris Water Filter System. Customer satisfaction is simply the icing on the cake.

Installation & Setup Tips

Everpure Claris is less expensive to acquire than reverse osmosis systems, takes up less space, and is easy to install. The system can be mounted horizontally or vertically to the wall or be a freestanding unit.

  • To mount and install, simply attach the included bracket to the wall and attach the hoses to the proper filter head.
  • Lead a flush hose into a waste container or into a drain.
  • Turn the filter head clockwise after you insert the filter cartridge in order to flush the cartridge.
  • Align marks on the mounting bracket to the marks on the cartridge.
  • After closing the flush/pressure release value, the system is ready for operation.

After installation, owners will need to adjust the bypass level according to their specific needs. A guide to determining ideal water hardness is supplied. Maintenance requires only the occasional filter change. As stated previously, scale and lime will no longer be an issue. Protect your equipment and deliver the best-tasting beverages in town with Everpure Claris.

Everpure 9970-54 Reverse Osmosis System

Wherever there is a demand for a consistent flow of quality filtered water, the Everpure EV9970-54 efficiently delivers its services. The purity of the final product of the reverse osmosis system is especially advantageous to coffeehouses, which often serve a very sensitive constituency when it comes to detecting subtle changes in taste. Clean, pure water makes the difference between a quality cup and a mediocre one. Crabs, mussels, vegetables, and hundreds of other steamed foods are also prime beneficiaries of this water as it concerns taste and quality. The comprehensive filtration system of Everpure when used for steaming greatly enhances the taste of any food item by removing heavy metals, fluoride, and other contaminants. This makes for a healthier and tastier meal. The EV9970-54 offers similar benefits for combi ovens, ice, espresso machines, and many more.

Benefits

The sophisticated filtration techniques that the EV9970-54 reverse osmosis system employs offer an entire slew of benefits for owner and guests alike. Essentially, the EV9970-54 removes water-soluble contaminants that many people don’t register until it affects their health later on in life. It does so with the highest efficiency yet, recovering almost 80 percent of incoming water, ultimately saving money on the water bill. At half of the energy cost of traditional reverse osmosis systems, the MRS-600HE-II system saves on that bill as well, establishing itself as a powerhouse of savings, sure to pay for itself with interest. Moreover, the system appropriates its filtering process to the cleanliness level of the water at wherever it is located for maximum efficiency. The EV9970-54 also protects its own system as well as any surrounding areas from grime accumulation due to contaminants in water, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment with less cleanup and repair.

Installation & Operation Tips

When installing the EV9970-54, establishing a solid mounting position is the foremost concern to avoid damage to the wall or machine. A water line of at least 3/8 of an inch is required. Incoming water must provide at least 1.5 gallons per minute. Make sure to properly orient the device as it is installed, with cartridges facing down and a minimum 3-inch clearance all around. Once mounted, beginning the reverse osmosis is facilitated by the Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual. To operate optimally, changing the cartridges yearly or when they get to full capacity is recommended. Remember to thoroughly flush the filter cartridge when first installed and at every changing thereafter.
