Doesn’t anyone watch the survivor shows anymore, “Dual Survival””Naked and Afraid” etc.. ? The first thing you do in a survival situation is find what? WATER… but wait you can’t just drink it, you’ve then got to purify that water to make sure that you do not ingest any protozoa, bacteria or viruses. So you boil it to kill everything that is living in it that could potentially make you sick. A new health trend in the United States is to avoid drinking tap water in exchange for “raw water”, putting your health at risk in the process. According to the World Health Organisation, drinking contaminated water causes over half a million diarrhoeal deaths every year. There is a reason why we chlorinate our water. At the turn of the century, thousands of people died annually from cholera, dysentery and typhoid fever. Each day, your body must replace 2.4 liters — or about 2.5 quarts of water — through ingested liquid and foods. Water is more important for your body’s survival than food. You can live without water for approximately one week, but you can survive without food for more than a month. Lack of water, or dehydration, reduces the amount of blood in your body, forcing your heart to pump harder in order to deliver oxygen-bearing cells to your muscles. In the early stages of dehydration, you can become dizzy, irritable and experience headaches. As dehydration progresses, you become clumsy and exhausted. Your eyesight fades. In the last stages of dehydration, you may feel nauseous and begin vomiting. Without water, you will enter a coma and die. If your goal really is to avoid everything bad in your water coming from your tap you may want to just purchase a very affordable reverse osmosis system to put under your sink to take everything out of the water including chlorine, chloramine, chlorine byproducts. This system has been tested according to WQA S-300 for reduction of the substances listed above. The first stage of filtration is the sediment filter, which reduces suspended particles such as dirt, dust, and rust. The second stage of filtration is the carbon filter. This filter reduces volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), chlorine, and other compounds that might impact the taste or odor of the tap water.
